Boranup Forest, then Tribal Grounds Nannup
Boranup Maze, Caves Road, Karridale (30/12/2021 – 9/01/2022)
Tribal Grounds, Chalwell Rd Nannup (10/01 – 16/01/2022)
Hi GWN members and friends,
This year we will be camping in the beautiful Boranup Forest first, then onto our Tribal Home, donated to us by John Thompson many years ago. We will enjoy the hospitality of Malcolm Mortimer at his property on Caves Road, opposite Boranup Drive which winds through the Karri Forests, about 20km South of Margaret River and then we will go to our home in Nannup where we will dedicate a tree to Cath O’Connel one of our loved Tribal elders who left us this year.
Malcolm’s property has shade under the peppermint trees and a nearby dam, which may or may not have enough water in it to get wet. We camped there on the Cape to Cape walk in April 2019 and the last Summer Camp was there as well. It is a lovely spot and we will find some local walks and many beautiful areas that are just a short GWN bus ride away. Usually our bus takes us every day for a swim in Hamelin Bay, just a 10 min drive.
For New Years Eve there will be a party at Malcolm’s, musicians are invited too, and please bring some instruments along.
Summer camps tend to be somewhat informal, what follows is where we are up to so far.
We are taking our bus and the truck, with cooking gear and a few hundred litres of water. Bring your own food to share meals (a box of about $40-$50 worth. We usually cook together, but you can cook for yourself if you want to, or if you have special dietary needs). It all happens organically, so be flexible. We can do food runs into Margaret River /Nannup as required. We also ask for a donation of $15-$20 a day. We organise daily outings and walks, but you can do your own thing too.
On the 10th January we change camp and spend another relaxed week at the Tribal grounds near Nannup. If you haven’t been there before, come check it out, we have a house there, water and toilets too!
Memberships are due ($20 a year) and all positions are open. You can pay membership at the Summer camp or details can be found on the website greatwalknetwork.org. Nominations for committee members can be sent to email@example.com. They can also be accepted on the day. The AGM will be on Saturday, 8th January at 10am at Boranup Maze.
I am looking forward to spending time with you all and having a walk together in community.
PS from Vera: Caralynn will join us a bit later, but I will be there for most of the camp

You don’t have to book in!
PPS: FOR OUR GREAT WALK FASHION SHOW happening in the first week of the New Year, please bring along a bag of clothes you no longer wear but others might love. Clothes swap is a brilliant way of recycling!
