The 25th Anniversary Walk will follow the Augusta to Busselton Heritage Trail and the walk will go between Wednesday April 24 to Sunday May 5 2013, with A Great Walk 25thAnniversary Festival and Re-union to be held on Saturday 4th May on the Mott family farm near Busselton.
The total length of the historic Heritage trail is about 95 km. The 25th Anniversary Walk will take twelve days to traverse the route, a pace that will allow us time to hear about the Wadandi perspective on the trail and the changes brought by European settlement. as well as make personal connections with the various environments and each other. We will also spend time creating festivities for the final day and night which we hope will draw past and present walkers from afar.
People may join for a day or for the whole walk.
To facilitate camping, the walk will use only three campsites, each chosen to allow bussing of walkers to and from the trail. Each is a private farm that and all have welcomed the GWN to stay on their properties.
As usual there will be walks of varying lengths and pickups arranged for those not wishing to complete the full day. There will also be chances for swimming both in the rivers and the sea. We’re hoping to have visits from people from the Wardan Centre and locals who know the European history of the area. A particular focus of this walk will be the teaching and learning of performing arts leading up to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the first Great Walk on the last day and night.
We hope you can come along on this walk and do let your friends and family know !
