The Great Walk Network Inc (GWN) is registered as an association in Western Australia incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 2015. The Club operates under a constitution, and is managed by a committee elected by members at an Annual General Meeting (AGM) The AGM is held at the end of each year. Only current financial members are eligible to vote at an AGM.
Committee
The Committee consists of a number of office holders and ordinary committee members. Office holder positions are:
- Chairperson (known as ‘convenor’)
- Deputy Chairperson (known as ‘co-convenor’)
- Secretary
- Treasurer
All committee members must be over 18 years of age and be a financial member of the GWN.
Becoming a committee member
Committee members are elected at the AGM or may be appointed directly by the committee to fill a vacancy if required (in the case of an office holder resigning during the year).
Nomination of committee members
Six weeks prior to the AGM, the secretary will call for nominations. A member who wishes to be nominated must nominate for election in writing (email) to the GWN secretary four weeks prior to the AGM. The written notice is to include a statement by another member in support of the nomination. A member may nominate for a specific position or to be an ordinary committee member.
At the AGM, a separate election will be held for each office holder position. If no nominations have been received the outgoing chairperson may call for nominations from the ordinary members of the meeting.
Committee Meetings
The committee meets at least 3 times per year on the dates and times as determined by the committee. The date of the first committee meeting is to be agreed at the AGM.
Non committee members may attend a committee meeting if invited by the Committee according to the Constitution.
Ordinary General Meeting (OGM)
An OGM will be held immediately after the AGM and is open to all members. OGM’s may be called throughout the year (at walks) if broader input from the membership is deemed appropriate.
Sub-committees
To assist with the conduct of the association’s business the committee may appoint one of more subcommittees. A subcommittee may consist of a number of people and may include non-members. A subcommittee is a non decision making body and is required to submit information and any proposals to the committee for consideration only.
