Great Walk Lake Muir & Walpole Wilderness Walk
Tuesday 11th April to Thursday 20th April 2017

This walk will focus on the wonderful lakes and bushland of the Lake Muir as well as the spectacular granite outcrops of the Walpole Wilderness Areas between Manjimup, Mt Barker and Walpole. The Lake Muir Unicup complex is a Ramsar wetland area of international significance as well as part of Gondwana Link See (www.gondwanalink.org for more info. We will also enjoy climbing Mt Roe and Mt Frankland. After the walk enjoy Fairbridge Music Festival ! (Itinerary subject to modification)
Day 1 Tuesday 11 April 2017
Departing from Fremantle area leaving 7am (info to be provided prior to day) . Please bring your own lunch, water & snacks for the day. Travel to Lake Unicup picnic area, near Lake Muir, Rocky Gully. Set up camp
Day 2 Wednesday 12th April 2017
Great Walk around Lake Unicup and Little Unicup Lake.
Day 3 Thursday 13th April 2017
Wetland Tour with Green Skills & Biodiversity experts including Ian Wheeler of the WA Dept of Parks and Wildlife around eco restoration sites in the Muir Unicup Ramsar wetland catchment. This tour will involve short walks around beautiful wetland sites.
Day 4 Friday 14th April 2017 – Easter weekend
Pack up camp together. Truck travels to Bannister Downs camps site, Geordinup Road. . Set up camp .Afternoon walk around nearby lakes
Day 5 Saturday 15th April 2017 Easter weekend
Great Walk around Lake Muir and Byenup Lagoon Area
Day 6 Sunday 16th April 2017 Easter weekend
Great Walk around Lake Muir and Byenup Lagoon Area
Day 7 Monday 17th April 2017 Easter weekend
Pack up camp together. Truck travels to Billa Billa Cottages property, North Walpole Set up camp

Long walk Visit to Mt Roe in the Walpole Wilderness Area Short Walk: Visit to Mt Frankland.
Day 9 Wednesday 19th April 2017
Art Trail Day – and other activities including visit to Fernhook Falls on the Deep River. .

Pack up Camp, and Travel Home

How to get to Campsite 1- Lake Unicup
From Fremantle travel to Bunbury, Donnybrook and Boyup Brook. From Boyup Brook travel about 67km down the Boyup Brook – Frankland Road, turning right into Lake Unicup Road. After about 5km the Lake camp area will be on the left.
From Manjimup travel along Muir Highway about 67 km. turn left into Unicup Road. After 7km turn left into Pindicup Road. Follow for 7km and turn right into Lake Unicup Road. Campsite will be on the right beside the lake afterafter about 4km.
Directions from Albany Travel to Mt Barker roundabout and head about 89 km on Muir Highway past Rocky Gully. Turn right into Geordinup Road and follow Great Walk signs. After 7km turn left into Pindicup Road. Follow for 7km and turn right into Lake Unicup Road. Campsite will be on the right beside the lake after about 4km.
Campsite 2 – Bannister Downs campsite
Directions from Perth Travel from Perth to Manjimup. Take the Muir Highway and head about 71km towards Rocky Gully. Turn right into Geordinup Road and follow Great Walk signs. After about 240m turn left through the farm gate (please leave gates as you find them) and follow the tagged track 3km to the camp on the Bannister Downs property.
Directions from Albany Travel to Mt Barker roundabout and head about 85km on Muir Highway past Rocky Gully. Turn left into Geordinup Road and follow Great Walk signs. After about 240m turn left through the farm gate (please shut gate) and follow the tagged track 3km to the camp on the Bannister Down property.
